Dogs cope very well with hydrotherapy as a form of exercise. However, for the welfare and safety of your dog, it is essential to get advice from your Veterinary Surgeon before your dog can start any hydrotherapy programme.
All dogs must be referred by a veterinary surgeon, whether it is for a specific condition for hydrotherapy or Laser Therapy. It is an offence for any person other than an owner, to treat a dog unless the permission of the veterinary surgeon is obtained.
Splash Paws will NOT treat any dog without a signed Veterinary Referral Form which can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of the page.
Hydrotherapy will help treat a variety of conditions including, but not limited to:
- Pre and post-operative conditioning
- Arthritis – reduced pain and increased mobility
- Hip and elbow dysplasia – especially useful for young dogs who are restricted to lead exercise
- CDRM – Chronic Degenerative Radiculomyelopathy
- Spinal injuries
- Recovering from injuries – including fracture, soft tissue and neurological damage
- Cranial cruciate ligament injuries and post-operative recovery
- Muscle strengthening maintenance and restoration
- Relief of pain, swelling and stiffness
- Relaxation of muscle spasms
- Cardiovascular fitness (heart and lungs)
- Obesity – weight loss in conjunction with a controlled diet to improve fitness and quality of life.
- Mental well being
- Fitness – for Show and Agility dogs
